One of my all time favorite pickers is the late great Gene Moles. If you're unfamiliar with his work, he's on the first Merle Haggard 45, most all the Red Simpson gems, and on many of the great Dick Curless tunes (among many many others). He's also the man Jr. Brown copied Highway Patrol from almost note for note.

There's very little out there on his technique/style or transcriptions of his playing. I'm just now getting around to getting a bunch of his solos and licks down on the staff.

The meat n' taters is all there though, so any nuances that may have been overlooked shouldn't render this piece useless. Besides, it's guitar pickin'! Itshould be open to interpretation and individual creativities should be celebrated.

Take it and run with it!

Hope you enjoy!

Phil Baugh and Ralph Mooney slayed on Merle's original LP version of Swingin' Doors. Here's a loose transcription of Phil's solo. I'm still too slow at the transcription software, so I use the term *loose* in these transcriptions.

According to iTunes (and the thousands of Europeans we played for this summer), this is maybe the most popular tune on California Jones! I thought a basic transcription was in order. I am still not very well versed with Guitar Pro software so this may not be the most detailed transcription, but all the meat n' potatoes of the tune are there, and the more I use the software, the better these transcriptions will become.

I hope you enjoy this one! It's a surf/middle eastern type melody with some fairly odd chord pairings. For your convenience I've included a pdf and the actual tune from the album is here on the website's audio player in it's entirety.

Have fun with it and please share your takes if you wish!

Howdy everyone! It's been a few years, but I'm making an effort to get back to posting lessons here in the "Licks & Tricks" section. I'm also working on ideas for some video series' that I would like to do.

This is my first ever solo transcription from one of my very own tunes! I just released my first "Adam Lopez & His Rhythm Review" album called "California Jones" and I would like to share with you a transcription of the solo and main rhythm form.

It's a groovy old school Rhythm & Blues with a stride piano'esque rhythm with a funky/wiry guitar solo. I also incorporated some double stops that fuse some country influence into the solo as opposed to double stops in the more obvious vein of Steve Cropper or Cornell Dupree.

I hope you find it useful and fun! Please leave comments and if you have any requests for future lessons (of any kind), don't hesitate to ask in the comments or contact sections.

Enjoy!

Adam
